Apple's innovative AirPlay technology provides a unique opportunity to stream content from iPhone, iPad and other Apple products to Smart TV screens. Based on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, this technology provides ease of use without the need for special conditions. However, in the hospitality industry, using the AirPlay function is often problematic, especially due to conflicts between devices. It is difficult to determine which TV is available for connection in a particular room.
In 2023, a new AirPlay for Hotels feature was denmark mobile database at WWDC to solve this problem. Apple proposed changing the connection method by implementing a time-tested QR code into the process. Users will only need to point their iPhone or iPad camera at the TV screen, scan the QR code, and confirm the connection. They will then be able to freely transmit the image without the risk of it being sent in an undesirable direction. Apple assures that this update will be available this year, although no exact dates have been announced.
RCS support in iPhone messages
RCS, or Rich Communication Services, is a messaging technology that combines the functionality of SMS and MMS. Although the idea was proposed in 2008, it only gained popularity recently after Google integrated RCS support into its Messages app. Initially, it was thought that by implementing RCS into other messengers, communication between them would become more universal. However, no one was in a hurry to implement this technology.
This year, Apple promises to add RCS support to iMessage. Initially, it was assumed that this decision was motivated by the requirements of the European Commission under the Digital Markets Act. However, it turned out that the Chinese authorities insisted on RCS support. From 2024, all 5G smartphones released in China are required to support RCS to unify messaging protocols, since SMS is likely to be abandoned. Apple had no choice but to adapt. The update will appear in iOS 18.
