One industry that really bucked the trend in 2020 was the tablet and PC industry, which grew 13.6% , after showing a slow decline in previous years, growth that experts attribute to the increase in working and learning from home.

“Unprecedented demand in the education and consumer segments due to work from home and online learning has certainly led to resurgence in demand for tablets,” observed IDC research analyst Anuroopa Nataraj .
In 2014, the last year the tablet industry saw growth before 2020, 42% of sales professionals used iPads or tablets as sales tools. Now that percentage looks set to grow again.

All salespeople, not just the half who work on the road (5%) or from home (41%), can benefit from having the right devices when talking to prospects, managing their activities or completing sales.

So how can salespeople benefit from using tablets or iPads specifically? Below are seven ways tablets and iPads can help you and your sales team stay productive and sell more this summer.

1. Take advantage of downtime
Many countries are looking at lifting restrictions, meaning salespeople can start scheduling face-to-face meetings again.

It also means you're likely to travel more to meetings or spend more time in company waiting rooms.

With a tablet, you can use this downtime to access your software, answer emails, or even get ready. While you could do the same thing with a laptop, a tablet is much less cumbersome and easier to pull out when you're out and about.

This is especially true if you can't sit down (on a busy subway train, for example), in a cafe or restaurant with limited table space, or if you're standing somewhere waiting for the person you're meeting to arrive.

2. Show off your sales material
Tablets can be useful tools in meetings for another reason: to display your sales collateral, whether it's a brochure or documents that support your sales presentations .

Instead of printing and carrying a lot of documents, you can pack your tablet.

This also has the added benefit of making you appear more professional, as well as giving you immediate access to other documents should you need them during your presentation.

A real estate agent might use an iPad during a home showing to show potential buyers different views of the home and surrounding amenities, then access their real estate CRM to take notes after each showing. Meanwhile, a sales engineer might use a tablet to show schematics and technical details of their products when visiting a prospect or client.

3. Show yourself capable in the sales place
As we mentioned earlier, it's not just remote workers who can benefit from using a tablet.

When conducting research on the retail industry, EKN found that 4 in 10 millennial shoppers were influenced by knowledgeable staff , but less than a third of retailers allowed their staff to access inventory or pricing information from mobile devices.

If you have a store on a main street or in a shopping centre, providing your sales associates with a tablet can help them engage with shoppers and present more compelling information to make a purchase.
