Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy
The sustainable development goals were set in 2015 by the UN and signed by the leaders of 193 countries. The signing of these objectives means that world leaders commit to pursuing these milestones and working to meet them by 2030.
The SDGs consist of a set of 17 global objectives to eradicate coo email list poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Some of these objectives are: Zero hunger, quality education, climate action, life below water, life on land and, the one that interests us most, affordable and non-polluting energy. Each objective also has a series of goals that allow monitoring the correct progress of the objective.
Despite having governments and administrations as its main recipients , companies are given a fundamental role in their fulfillment, since they have the capacity to act as agents of change . As a relevant benchmark in the energy and environmental sphere in the Iberian Peninsula, Naturgy bears responsibility for meeting the goals of some SDGs, but is an essential participant in the fulfillment of Objective 7, affordable and non-polluting energy, in Spain.
Goal 7:
This objective was established to achieve universal access to electricity and other types of energy . In addition to developing this new supply in a sustainable and non-polluting manner, the aim is also to ensure that the volume of energy that is already being produced today becomes non-polluting. When setting this objective, the UN took into account several data that it considered to be the main points to be modified and improved:
13 % of the world's population still does not have access to modern electricity services .
3 billion people rely on wood, coal, charcoal or animal waste to cook and heat their food.
Indoor air pollution , due to the use of fuels for domestic energy, caused 4.3 million deaths in 2012, 6 out of 10 of these were women and girls (In 2019, deaths from pollution had already been reduced to 4.2 million ).
The energy sector is the main contributor to climate change , accounting for approximately 60% of all global greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2015, 17.5% of final energy consumption was from renewable energy .
With these data in mind, the UN set 3 goals and two essential sub-themes for this objective from 2015 to 2030:
7.1. Ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services.
7.2. Substantially increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix .
7.3 Double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency .
