Following the resounding news of Informa's purchase of Ascential and the subsequent acquisition of the commercial rights to the Effie brand, Philip Thomas, CEO of the firm that owns Cannes Lions, agreed to a consultation with Adlatina and answered all the questions that industry members are currently asking themselves.
Philip Thomas: “Our mission is to lead and set the industry agenda”Thomas: “The key issue for all marketers is to be able to demonstrate the value of the investments they make on behalf of their companies.”
Philip Thomas is currently paytm phone number data CEO of Ascential (owner of, among other brands and activities, Lions, Contagious, Warc, Money 20/20 and the brand new holder of the commercial rights to the Effie Awards), a company bought a few months ago by Informa for approximately 1.6 billion dollars. He is also Chairman of Cannes Lions (having been its executive director for ten years, between 2006 and 2016).
He began his career as a journalist, writing for national and international magazines and newspapers and was editor of Empire, the UK's best-selling film magazine. He subsequently took on the role of managing director of FHM on a global level, launching the iconic men's magazine in over 30 countries.
He was Managing Director of Emap’s Australian and South East Asia division, based in Sydney, for three years, before returning to the UK and being appointed CEO of Lions Festivals.
Philip is also Chairman of the Media Trust, an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and a member of the BBC's advisory board on personalised content using artificial intelligence. Philip was singled out as one of the change agents for gender equality by UK magazine Management Today.
Several advertising executives, interviewed by Adlatina, remember when he visited Buenos Aires with FilmSuez - Lions' representative in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay - in the middle of the first decade of this century. They all agree on his friendly character and his simple and profound thinking. Something that is evident in this interview.
