We interviewed Miguel Ysrrael Ramírez Sánchez, a professor of the Specialization in Project Design and Management that FUNIBER is beginning to promote. fantuan phone number data Ramírez is a research professor at the International Ibero-American University (UNINI Mexico), which belongs to the university network with which FUNIBER collaborates.
In the interview, the teacher explains the problems experienced during teleworking, as well as offering his point of view on the changes in project management and direction and the roles of professionals.
What challenges do you think have existed in the project area during the teleworking period?
The need for a change in the work paradigm, where most activities were carried out in a workplace, towards a paradigm of trust and control outside the work space, has led to major challenges in the project area.
First, it must be recognized that, according to the International Labor Organization (ILO), that form of work that is carried out outside the workplace facilities without physical contact with other coworkers is called teleworking.
Basically, this way of developing ourselves professionally involves several challenges, including building trust with our work team, controlling activities, and managing our free time.
How do you think these problems have been resolved?
Trust in the work team is one of the main drawbacks of teleworking, since its members must be known beforehand, in order to make the necessary adjustments according to their abilities and needs, both physical and technological, as well as implement appropriate digital communication tools to be empathetic and establish bonds of mutual trust to obtain better results in which everyone feels committed to the achievements obtained.
Likewise, technological communication tools appropriate for each environment are used to control activities. It is important to mention that teleworking can be done on the move, wherever we are (for example, we often use a cell phone when we are in different places) or in the teleworking modality from our home.
Free time management is one of the most difficult problems to control, as people easily mix free time with work activities, causing a combination of stress and personal satisfaction. Therefore, it is important to establish activity management strategies and allow employees to organize their free time.
What new avenues will emerge in the field of project management and direction after the pandemic?
I believe that there will be significant changes in the way we work inside a workplace, from basic safety and hygiene measures to those related to the use of better technological tools. We must be prepared for any possible scenario, from the total eradication of the pandemic to new habits in adaptation to the current environment, so that training for new scenarios is a high priority.
