INP is a new Google Core Web Vitals metric that measures the quality of a website's responsiveness and usability.
Interaction to Next Paint considers all qualifying interactions, from the start of the user interaction to the time the browser is able to paint the next frame.
The qualifying interactions that INP considers include:
Clicking on an element with a mouse
Pressing a key on a keyboard, such as the Enter key
Tapping on a device with a touchscreen, such as mobile phones
The end result is that INP tells you the delay users experience when interacting with an element on mint database your website until there is a visual change, or the “next coat of paint.”
After several months of development, INP will officially become part of Google's collection of Core Web Vitals metrics on March 12, 2024.
