The WCAG guidelines, or Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, provide guidelines for improving the accessibility of web content. The guidelines consist of four principles: observability, manageability, understandability, and reliability (or robustness). Each principle is accompanied by several guidelines that provide more specific guidelines and goals. Level AA improves accessibility for a wider audience. For example, providing captioning for videos is a criterion for level AA.
The AAA level improves accessibility for an even wider audience, for example by providing sign language videos and improving the cognitive understandability of text.
In addition, the implementation of the criteria is supported by the texts “Understanding”, “How to meet” and “Techniques”, which help with practical implementation. These texts have not been translated into Finnish.
