The Productivity Trap
An office worker most often has a clear schedule and a list of responsibilities. He comes to work at 9 am, and at exactly 6 pm he runs away from the office to get away from work tasks. You will rarely meet those who work in the evenings or on weekends, unless they are some careerists.

Managers, on the contrary, spend most of their free time at work. When you are responsible for the company and employees, there is never enough time to rest. And if you suddenly manage to set aside a day for yourself and turn off work chat notifications, you still mentally scroll through ideas and plans for business development at work. In the eternal pursuit of new heights, such managers fall into the productivity trap , from which it is not so easy to get out.

The Productivity Trap

Nowadays, there is increasing talk about the importance of not working too much and taking time for yourself. But how often do managers think about this? Workaholism is praised: they say that success comes only to the hardest workers, and they cite the example of Tim Cook, who gets up at 4 a.m., or Elon Musk, who is known for sleeping in the office. According to him, working too much is normal, because “no one changed the world by working 40 hours a week.” But few people think about the dark side of such a lifestyle - deteriorating health, problems in personal life, or its absence altogether. Therefore, when you close billion-dollar deals, the taste of victory is no longer so bright.

What to do? There are two opposing strategies: work-life balance and integration. The first is more suitable for those who work 40 hours in the office and forget about work on weekends. But work-life integration is ideal for those who do not forget about work at all.

What is Work Life Balance?
There are often entrepreneurs or top managers who literally live for work, spend all their free time in the office and enjoy it. We think that you know such a person or recognize yourself in this.

Workaholism is good for business and brings in big money. But for the manager or entrepreneur personally, it ends in health problems: the nervous system is shaken, and this condition can flow into psychological disorders and apathy. And sometimes it even affects physical health, causing inflammation in the body, which leads to gastritis and ulcers, provokes heart attacks. Sounds scary, right?

The increasingly popular shift from productivity to work-life balance can help avoid health problems. This is when the focus shifts from chasing money and clients to yourself and your personal needs.

The key to balance is to clearly separate work and personal life. Mixing them is a bad idea. With balance, you separate time for work tasks and for yourself, avoid overtime, and always finish working after a certain time.

But, to be honest, the idea is well suited for regular employees who are not responsible for an entire business or, for example, a production process. The working day is usually not standardized, and if a site is hacked at night or an important employee quits, then you won’t be able to just quit your job. Therefore, we suggest trying another strategy: integrating work and life.
