About the Race Group
The group was born in the Engenho de Dentro neighborhood, in the north of Rio de Janeiro in 1985. Grupo Raça is also known as one of the precursors of Pagode in the country.

Initially formed by Marley (ganzá), Marquinhos (banjo), Mongol (tantã), Ronaldinho (cavaquinho), Totonho (tambourine), Valnei (repique de mão) and Carlinhos (tamborim), they signed a contract with the record label RGE and eventually released their first LP “Grupo Raça” in 1987 and then “Tempero” in 1989.

However, it was in 1991 that the group achieved prominence with their third LP, “Da África à Sapucaí”. The commercial success was great, highlighting the tracks “Dona da Minha Sina” and “Seja Mais Você”, with the latter being the theme of the Globo soap opera “Felicidade”.

The following year, the group's success would conquer not only Brazil but also Latin radio stations in South America and the United States. The samba "O Teu Chamego" from the album "Feito Pra Você" marked the peak of the group's career, winning several Brazilian music awards, including Antena de Ouro and Prêmio Sharp.

Currently, Raça has sold more than six MILLION records in 37 years of career.
