With the arrival of summer, internet browsing habits are changing significantly among users in Spain, with online games taking a big lead in app usage , surpassing popular platforms such as WhatsApp or social networks. According to a recent analysis by GfK Dam , the official digital audience measurement in Spain , 95% of internet users, equivalent to more than 38.4 million people, use apps monthly, spending an average of 73 hours and 35 minutes per month on these platforms.

One of the highlights of the study is that women are the ones who spend the most time on apps in the summer, with an average of 79 minutes per month per person, compared to the 68 minutes spent by men. In terms of age, Generation Z, between 16 and 24 years old, leads consumption, with more than 4.3 million unique users who spend a total of 92 hours and 26 minutes connected each month.

Among the preferred time for users to connect is in the afternoon, between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., where the greatest activity is concentrated with 38.1 million users.

Online games lead consumption in summer
The study presented by GfK Dam has also shown a clear increase in the use of online gaming applications during the summer, far surpassing messaging applications such as WhatsApp and social networks that tend to dominate at other times of the year.

Among the most popular apps is Gummy Drop!, which tops the list with 50,162 unique monthly users, each spending an average of 23 hours and 52 minutes. Other games that have captured the attention of users include Covet Fashion with 28,827 monthly users, EverMerge with 51,505, and Merge Dragons! with over 105,000 people logged in per month. Also featured on the list are video games such as Fishdom and children's games such as Disney Magic Kingdom, reflecting the increased availability of free time for children in the summer.

This is why the digital entertainment phenomenon during the summer is stronger than the rest of the year, with online games gaining ground over other communication applications, demonstrating that users during this time are looking for a way to disconnect and enjoy their free time.
