Canva , the visual communication platform, has published the second edition of its annual “Visual Economy” report . The report collects the opinions of more than 3,700 business leaders from around the world on the motivations that drive visual communication and its impact.
The company commissioned a survey from consulting firm Morning Consult to find out how the use of visual communication tools in the workplace is being approached and the role that artificial intelligence is playing in its ability to increase productivity, foster creativity and streamline workflows. This survey was carried out in 12 countries: Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Australia.
Key findings of the survey in Spain
The survey presented in the Canva report yielded several findings that allow us to more accurately understand the use and advantages of visual communication tools in the workplace. Taking into account the great capacity that tools such as artificial intelligence also offer, some of them include the democratization of design, increased creativity and productivity, or real-time collaboration in work teams.
Advantages at the business level
More than three-quarters (76%) of people in leadership positions surveyed in Spain say that visual communication tools have increased their company's performance. Visual communication allows for faster content creation and team collaboration, as well as increased audience engagement, which saves companies a lot of time and money . As a result, 70% of people in leadership positions are investing more in visual communication tools compared to the previous year.
AI boosts productivity
Due to tighter budgets and increased demand for content creation, almost 80% of professionals in leadership positions in Spain have started exploring AI tools to streamline their content production needs. In addition, the majority (85%) agree that the quality of visual content has improved thanks to AI . It is also worth noting that Spain is the country that shows the least concern about the impact of AI in relation to job losses compared to the rest of the countries surveyed: 54% in Spain say they feel concerned, a percentage that is much higher in countries such as the United Kingdom (79%), the United States (74%), France (64%) or Germany (63%). In addition, people surveyed in Spain are also listed as the least concerned about the impact that AI will have on plagiarism.
The democratization of design
The ability to communicate visually is now a prerequisite in the workplace, regardless of the role. In fact, the majority of people in senior positions (85%) expect their teams to have some design knowledge in order to communicate effectively , even if they do not have a design role. In this regard, almost two-thirds (61%) say they provide training to those in non-design roles to achieve a certain level of competence in this field.
Expanding production through collaboration
More than a quarter (28%) of senior professionals find the inability to collaborate across teams and complex workflows challenging when creating and adapting content. As a result, business leaders place a premium on workflow optimization (91%) and all-in-one functionality (89%) when investing in visual communication platforms . In fact, 93% of senior leaders in Spain place a high value on real-time collaboration, even more so than in the UK (92%), France (89%) and Germany (86%).
Creativity needs the right tools to flourish
More than two-thirds of people in positions of responsibility in Spain (68%) believe that the reluctance of senior managers within companies to use new technologies hinders creativity in the workplace. In addition, 67% believe that the isolation of teams and the lack of collaboration between work teams impede creative thinking and the achievement of innovative results.

From presentations to engaging videos and interactive data visualizations, visuals
have become the currency of communication, allowing businesses to stand out from the
noise generated by the multitude of content.
