Keyword Research: What it is, how to do it and the best tools

Post by muskanhossain66 »

How do you know what to write on your blog?
But after all, I've already created the blog and now, “What do I write on the blog?”, that's the question I get most on Instagram.

In fact, that was my doubt for a long time when I created Vou Empreender e Agora?.

After all, I created the blog without any direction, as I've already mentioned in other articles, and without knowing exactly what to do or how to do it.

And I know that many blogs start like this, just with a great desire to make it happen.

But how do you actually know what to write? Know what 99 acres database people want to read? And thus move towards the goals for which the blog was created…

The truth is that to have a successful blog, you need to write articles that help your audience, answer their questions and solve their problems.

At the beginning of Vou Empreender e agora? I created articles that I thought people would like, without defining a niche or knowing if it was actually what people were looking for.

I wrote articles on random topics, just because I thought so. So don't make that mistake.

How do I discover my audience's doubts and problems?
First of all, understand your target audience:

Who are your readers?
What are your interests?
What are your questions?
What problems do they face?
In short, you need to know who you are talking to.

There are several ways for you to learn how to create content that is truly relevant to your audience.

Some of them are:

If you already have an audience, ask them . This could be in an Instagram question box, by sending an email to your email list, by messaging your most engaged followers, in a Telegram group, or any other way that you can connect with your audience.
Research your competition . Look at the main questions people are leaving in the comments on your competitors' social networks. Another way is to research which content on blogs in the same niche as yours has the most hits, is the most popular, and is the most shared.
Conduct a survey . You can create a survey and share it on your social networks and in Facebook groups (check which ones allow it), or forums related to your niche.
What really matters here is knowing what is relevant to your audience.

A subject can be approached in several ways
In your research you will discover that the same question can be asked in many different ways.

That is, people may use different terms and words to ask the same question.

Which in a way makes our work more difficult, after all, how do we decide and define the focus for an article on a given subject?

And that's where keyword research comes in. There's no point in writing an article with incredible content, applying SEO techniques and being in the top positions on Google if there are no searches.

What is keyword?
Keywords are words or phrases that people use to search on search engines like Google.

In other words, it is the way the user writes their question on Google to find answers and solve their problems.

For example, if you are going to write an article about ways to make money with Canva, some keywords could be “how to make money with Canva”, “ways to monetize Canva”, “How to make money with Ebook on Canva”.

You don't need to use a single keyword, the ideal is to choose a main keyword and secondary keywords.

The main one is where you will create your content, but you will add subtitles where you will work on the secondary keywords.

In other words, you will define the main keyword and work on the semantics of that word within the article.

But let's take it easy for now, you need to understand what these words are and how they can help you.

Types of keywords
As I mentioned, keywords can be one or more words, that is, it can be a word or a phrase.

Based on this, we have two categories:

Short tail keywords (head tail)
These are the ones that have one or two words, like “Canva” or “Digital Marketing”.

These are generally words with the most searches, but they are generic terms, their searches are more comprehensive and have high competition.

For example, someone who searches for Canva, what do they really want to know? Do they want to know what Canva is? Do they want to know how to use Canva?

Short tail keywords are broad words and it is difficult to know what people want to know with this search.

Furthermore, these are words with a lot of competition, precisely because they have a lot of searches, big websites already write about them and have already done a lot of SEO and positioning work.

Therefore, it is worth choosing more specific keywords with less competition.

Long Tail Keywords
These are keywords that have several words, like in the example I gave “ How to make money with Canva ”.

Despite having a lower search volume, long-tail keywords are more specific and you can know what the user is looking for.

This way, you can write an article that will actually answer this question and actually help the user.

Furthermore, the competition for these words is lower.

If you want to delve deeper into the subject, I recommend Chris Anderson's book, in which you will find details on how to use long-tail keywords.

Keyword research
Keyword research is the process of finding relevant keywords for your blog.

So how can keyword research help you know what to write about on your blog?

Keyword analysis will help you identify the terms your audience uses to find your products or services.

You will analyze searches made on search engines such as Google and Bing.

You will identify which keywords have the most searches, what the intention is and what the level of competition is for positioning and thus define which ones are worth working on.

During keyword research you need to analyze:

Search volume
How many times this word is searched monthly.

Is it worth investing time in a search with only 20 searches?

I'll tell you that it depends on your strategy, but I look for words with at least 200 searches. But there are other factors that influence my decision and I'll tell you more about them later.

CPC
It is the cost per click for that word, that is, how much advertisers pay for each click on their ads.

It is interesting to know because those with higher values indicate searches in which people intend to purchase.

Therefore, if you are promoting a product or service, the words with a higher CPC are the ones you should work on, after all, being positioned for these words will save you money on ads.

Competition
One of Google's ranking factors is your domain authority.

Therefore, if the first results in searches are large websites, you need to create much better content than theirs to be able to position yourself.

I analyze the PA and DA of the top positions to know their authority.
