Intel announces restructuring of hardware division

Murthy Renduchintala says goodbye to Intel after postponing delivery of 7nm processors to 2022

Delays in the delivery of new Intel processor lines have led the company to announce some changes in the structure of its hardware division. The main change is that the current head of the area, Murthy Renduchintala, will leave his position as of August 3.

Recently, Intel announced that the 7-nanometer greece mobile database line would be delayed and only released in 2022. Apparently, the company's leadership decided to shake up the hardware division and announced a change in leadership before the launch.

Renduchintala joined Intel in 2016 after a stint at rival Qualcomm. To lure him away from the rival, Intel offered him an $8.1 million bonus and a compensation package worth $25 million. At the time, he was considered the second most powerful executive at the company, behind only former CEO Brian Krzanich.

However, delays and Intel's difficulty in meeting stipulated schedules have led the company, now led by Bob Swan, to decide to restructure its hardware division. Internally called the Technology, Systems Architecture and Client Group (TSCG), the area will be divided into five different teams – technology development, design engineering, architecture, manufacturing and supply chain management.

The new names
Ann Kelleher will be the chief executive responsible for developing new technologies, and will be tasked with leading the development of the 7nm and 5nm manufacturing processes. She has worked at Intel since 1996, when she joined Intel Ireland, and has only grown internally within the company since then.

Manufacturing will be headed by Keyvan Esfarjani, while design engineering will be led on an interim basis by Josh Walden while Intel searches for a new leader. Architecture will be headed by Raja Koduri, and supply chain management will be led by Randhir Thakur. All five executives will report directly to CEO Bob Swan.
